Check BitLocker Decryption progress

Post by cah »

Become the administrator and open up a command window (cmd) then issue the command "manage-bde -status c:" for C drive:

Code: Select all

C:\WINDOWS\system32>manage-bde -status c:
BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7601
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Volume C: [OSDisk]
[OS Volume]

    Size: 238.18 GB
    BitLocker Version: Windows 7
    Conversion Status: Decryption in Progress
    Percentage Encrypted: 10%
Encryption Method: AES 128 with Diffuser
    Protection Status: Protection Off
    Lock Status: Unlocked
    Identification Field: None
    Key Protectors:
        TPM
        Numerical Password
"Percentage Encrypted: 10%" means it still has 10% remaining to be decrypted (90% done). This is after decrypting the drive for over 19 hours. Seems way too long for the decryption to be done........

Current time: 02:10 PM PDT on 11/14/2018 and there is still 2% encrypted. For about 2 hours, only 8% got decrypted.

Finally got fully decrypted at 03:15 PM on 11/14/2018. Almost 24 hours.

Check BitLocker Decryption progress - II

Some companies may have policies to re-encrypt the drive(s) automatically. Should this happen, the recovery key may be needed to boot the system. Make sure to keep a copy of BitLocker recovery key from Manage BitLocker.

Once the recovery key is entered and the system boots up, remember to suspend the BitLocker on the drive and then resume it to reset the status. Otherwise, it will always prompt for recovery key at reboot.
