Upgrade SPARC Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 by Live Upgrade

1. Download the file s8p7zip.tar.gz which can be found at the bottom at this page.
2. To unpack the download run gunzip

then run tar

3. When s8p7zip.tar.gz is unpacked, change in to the s8p7zip directory and run the install.sh script
# cd s8p7zip
# ./install.sh

Testing p7zip utility ...
Test successful.
p7zip utility has been installed successfully.
Three packages are installed into /opt/SMCp7zip:
* SMClgcc
* SMCmktemp
* SMCp7zip
The installer then creates symlinks from /opt/SUNW7za/bin/mktemp & /opt/SUNW7za/bin/7za to /usr/bin and subsequently installs a wrapper script at /usr/bin/p7zip.
Finally a test is carried out to validate the install.
4. The complete procedure for upgrading from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10/05 (or later) is:
1. Install s8p7zip.tar.gz
2. Follow the full instructions for standard Solaris 8 live upgrade at < Solution: 206844>.
Note: You must install the Live Upgrade packages (as listed in Step 2) and all relevant patches listed under the “Solaris[TM] 8 Operating System for SPARC” section of this document.
