Solaris 11 does not support legavy hardware

Post by cah »

I was trying to install Solaris 11 11/11 on SUN Fire V240 yesterday but the installation disk can't be detected. I had to install Solaris 10 Update 10 (08/11) instead.

Since Solaris 11 just came out less than a month ago, not much information could be found.
I searched the internet again today and found a post that is identical to my situation:

http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic. ... &t=1162236

Then, I went to Oracle Solaris 11 - End of Feature Notices and found the following:
  • End of Support for Legacy Hardware
Support for legacy systems that have included the UltraSPARC I, II, IIe, III, IIIi, III+, IV and IV+ processor architectures (as reported by the Solaris 'psrinfo -pv' command) has been removed. All Oracle SPARC Enterprise M-Series Servers and Oracle SPARC T-Series Servers will continue to be supported.

Note: Oracle Solaris 10 will continue to be a supported operating system for these affected platforms as per the current Oracle lifetime support policy.
Only M and T series servers are supported.

That explains why I was unable to install Solaris 11 on legacy hardware.
