I installed this newly released OS on my laptop's old HD last Saturday (12/06/2008) with the ZFS as the file system.
I shall be able to take advantage of the flexible ZFS (file system + volume management) to better handle the file allocation.
There's one feature I found interesting - USB drive detection.
This feature has been incorporated in Solaris 10 but I just recently discover.
Why?
Solaris 10 has improved tremendously in graphic user interface (GUI) for users and users can easily see the attached USB drive(s) on the desktop in X windows. I use Solaris as a server and do not see the desktop much and therefore did not get a chance to see this feature.
When I installed it on my laptop, I saw the icon appear when I plugged in the USB thumb drive. I right clicked the mouse to eject it. Very convenient. That means I can easily mount many external storage devices to the system and access them.
